Adaptation: Laying the Foundations of Inner Confidence

When a child enters the children’s community, it is often their first experience outside the family environment. They discover a new setting, new adults, and other children.

This first separation is a fundamental step in their development: it gradually opens the child to the wider world and nurtures their natural desire to explore, within a climate of emotional security.

To support this transition, an adaptation period is always put in place. In keeping with the principles of Montessori education, we deeply respect each child’s individual rhythm, as “each child is a complete individual in their own right.” It is the child who indicates how much time they need to feel secure and confident.

This period is therefore crucial, and we devote particular care and attention to it. The child is welcomed with warmth and kindness, in the presence of one of their parents. Gradually, the parent is invited to step away, and the child’s time in the classroom is slowly increased. This gentle and respectful approach allows the child to build strong inner security.

When trust is established, separation is no longer experienced as an obstacle. On the contrary, it becomes a gateway to exploring the environment, forming early social relationships, and opening to the world beyond the family circle.
